About ampuPTee

Raising the standard of care for amputees—one therapist at a time.

AmpuPTee was born out of a deeply personal realization: no matter how many patients I could help in my clinic, it would never be enough. There are thousands of individuals with limb loss and difference across the country who aren’t getting the care they deserve—often because their providers lack the training and confidence to guide them through their rehabilitation journey.

After a decade of working almost exclusively with amputees and collaborating closely with prosthetists, I saw the powerful outcomes that come from specialized care and interprofessional teamwork. But I also saw the massive gaps in education across the physical therapy profession.

That’s why I created ampuPTee.

Our mission is simple: to train and empower physical therapists and healthcare providers with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and mentorship they need to transform the lives of amputees. We believe every amputee deserves a provider who understands their journey—and we’re here to make that possible.

This isn’t just education. It’s a movement to redefine what’s possible in amputee rehab.

Darren Stoop, PT, DPT

Founder of ampuPTee

Darren Stoop is a physical therapist specializing in amputee rehabilitation. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science (2010) and Doctorate of Physical Therapy (2014) from Creighton University.

For the past 10 years, he has worked at Hanger Clinic, where greater than 80% of his caseload consisted of amputees, allowing him to develop a deep understanding of prosthetic rehabilitation. His unique experience working alongside prosthetists in a collaborative clinical setting reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary care in optimizing patient outcomes.

As his expertise grew, so did the demand for his knowledge. He began developing educational programs for physical therapists and healthcare providers to bridge the gap in amputee rehabilitation training. Through nationwide teaching engagements, he witnessed firsthand the widespread lack of specialized training among PTs, which leaves many amputees underserved and without the care they deserve.

Recognizing that he could only help a limited number of patients in his clinic, he launched ampuPTee to train and certify physical therapists nationwide, ensuring amputees everywhere receive the highest standard of care. He also serves as adjunct faculty at Creighton University, where he teaches the Amputations and Prosthetics course for Doctor of Physical Therapy students.

Through ampuPTee, Darren is on a mission to revolutionize amputee rehabilitation education, empower physical therapists, and improve mobility outcomes for thousands of amputees nationwide.
